St. Louis Rams have invested two years into Nick Foles
By Josh Hill
The St. Louis Rams have locked up Nick Foles for another two years — and we’ll have to see how that goes.
One of the most interesting trades of the offseason was the Philadelphia Eagles shipping Nick Foles off to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for Sam Bradford. It seemed like a steal of a deal for the Rams, but we can’t really judge anything before we see the results.
Foles was pretty decent with the Eagles but he was a casualty of Chip Kelly blowing up his own team for whatever reason he has decided that’s a good thing to do. St. Louis dumped the banged up and ineffective Bradford for a guy who is at least capable of playing quarterback, and they’re already not looking back.
According to the St. Louis Rams official site, the team has signed Nick Foles to a two-year extension.
"The Nick Foles era will go beyond 2015 for the Rams, as the quarterback signed a two-year contract extension on Friday, head coach Jeff Fisher announced following the club’s scrimmage at Lindenwood. With the deal, Foles is now under contract with the organization through the 2017 season."
This means that they get two years of a guy sightly better than Sam Bradford but with all the injury concerns locked up through the 2017 season.
Folks might finally be in a situation where he can succeed, as the Rams have weapons but haven’t had a quarterback to make things happen. Then again, Foles hasn’t really been someone who an NFL team can rely on for a full season and he’s going to try and change that this season.
He doesn’t have the incentive he did before today though, as he’s locked up with the Rams for the next two seasons, which means we might finally see them build something.
