AJ Allmendinger flexed his road course muscles as he won the pole for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International.

AJ Allmendinger has one shot to get into The Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. He much notch a win, and he must do it on Sunday at a track where he has won before.

Well, Allmendinger is off to a good start after winning the pole for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International. Allmendinger won last year’s race at the Glen and used the victory to earn himself a chance to compete for a Sprint Cup Championship.

It’s all about redemption for Allmendinger, as he was the fastest at Sonoma (the Sprint Cup’s other road course) earlier this season. Unfortunately for him, car troubles took him off the track early, and one of his two chances to get in as a road course ringer suddenly went out the window.

Allmendinger had the best speed of 127.839 mph and will be starting alongside Martin Truex Jr., who finished second in qualifying. Tony Stewart, who has won Watkins Glen more times than any other driver, will be right behind them in third when the race begins.

Here is the complete starting grid for Sunday’s race.
