The Dallas Cowboys are having an eventful training camp. First, running back Darren McFadden became injured and landed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Then, Dez Bryant got into a fistfight that saw helmets come off. Now, starting cornerback Brandon Carr has a broken bone in his right hand, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Many believed that Carr was going to be cut in the offseason for the team to save money, but Carr has both returned and been re-inserted into the starting lineup. Carr came over from the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency after the 2011 season and has been decent but certainly overpaid. Carr is owed $8 million this season, putting him the upper echelon for his position.

At this point, it is unclear how long Carr will be out following his surgery. If Carr misses any real time, first-round pick Morris Claiborne might have one final chance to save his roster spot. Claiborne has been a major disappointment since coming out of LSU, leading to rampant speculation that Claiborne will either be nailed to the bench of cut before the regular season begins.

Dallas is hoping to repeat its NFC East championship after surprising the masses with a 12-4 mark and playoff win in 2014. The Cowboys have upgraded the defense this offseason, signing the controversial defensive end Greg Hardy and drafting pass-rushing specialist Randy Gregory in the second round of the University of Nebraska. Considering the offense is loaded with Tony Romo, Jason Witten and Bryant, the defense only needs to be adequate to make a title run.
