It will be a glorious and emotional evening on Saturday, as the NFL’s 2015 Hall of Fame class is inducted in Canton, Ohio. One of the great traditions in all of sports, this year’s inductees will adorn their gold jackets and prepare to forever be enshrined in history.
This year’s class features a broad swath of league figures. There are two offensive skill players, two defensive stalwarts, two men who lived in the trenches and two front office franchise architects. With such a broad crop that spans several eras, fans of all ages will certainly be treated to tales about their favorite moment in league history.
The 2015 nominees are as follows: Jerome Bettis (running back), Tim Brown (wide receiver), Charles Haley (defensive end/linebacker), Bill Polian (front office), Junior Seau (linebacker), Will Shields (offensive guard), Mick Tingelhoff (center) and Ron Wolf (front office).
The posthumous induction of Junior Seau will likely be the most emotional of the day. Seau, who was beloved by many on and away from the field, committed suicide in 2012. Studies of his brain showed that Seau suffered from CTE – brain damage likely caused from 20 years of jarring hits at the linebacker position. After weighing it over, the NFL decided to allow Seau’s daughter Sydney speak on her father’s behalf at Saturday’s ceremony.
