Serena Williams tweeted about the latest high-profile police shooting incident.

A college football player was fatally shot by an Arlington, Texas police officer on Friday morning. Christian Taylor, a sophomore defensive back for Angelo State University, was killed after engaging in a struggle with officer Brad Miller at approximately 1 a.m.

According to the Associated Press, officers were responding to a burglary call from a car dealership where an individual had driven a vehicle through the business’ front window. Police approached the suspect, Taylor, at which time a struggle ensued. At some point during the altercation, Miller fired the fatal shot.

After learning of the tragic news, tennis superstar Serena Williams weighed in on the latest high-profile shooting incident.

Serena’s mention of hashtags is a reference to the litany of online movements that fallen out of the recent spate of racially charged incidents across the country – #BlackLivesMatter, #AllLivesMatter, #PrayForFerguson, #HandsUpDontShoot, #JusticeFor____, etc. Regardless of this particular situation’s specifics, Taylor’s death will likely blur together, at least in the eyes of social media, with those of Michael Brown, Freddie Gray and others.

Following news of Taylor’s death, Angelo State University released the following statement:

"“We’re not familiar with any of the details because it happened away from here, but we’d just like people to know that we are sad and sorry for his family and friend.”"

Officer Miller has been placed on administrative leave, per protocol in an event such as this.
