It’s the middle of August, which means there’s not a whole lot going on in the NBA world. Fortunately for us, the New York Knicks are here to rescue us from the dregs of the summer. More specifically, Carmelo Anthony.

Melo was engaging in a back-and-forth with some Instagram commenters, which is always a rewarding practice, I’m sure. ESPN.com’s Ian Begley has the details of one exchange, in particular:

"In response to a fan questioning how much he cared about the game, Anthony wrote: “Shows how little you know about me. Staying in NY shows that I do care. If I would have left, what would you have said then? ‘Oh, Melos wack for leaving. He turned his back on NY’. FOH. You are stuck with me buddy. Deal with it. If you want me gone, I’ll personally walk you into the front office so you can plead your case of the Knicks trading me. Hope you have bail money bc they might have you arrested for Disturbing the Peace.”"

Anthony’s not wrong, of course. There are surely plenty of fans that would’ve relentlessly disparaged Melo had he fled New York as a free agent last summer. Because, fans.

“You are stuck with me buddy. Deal with it.” is great, because I imagined sunglasses magically floating onto Melo’s face as he typed it. Kinda like this:

Another commenter asked Carmelo what we’re all thinking, which was why he’d bother responding to Internet trolls. His response? “This is therapeutic for me.”

Fair enough.
