It appears that Los Angeles is going to try and make a bid for the 2024 Olympics.

For the first time since 1996, the Olympics could be returning to the United States.

According to the AP, Los Angeles is finalizing a bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

"Encouraged by 81 percent support in a recent poll and a supportive mayor who shows no signs of changing his mind, the U.S. Olympic Committee announced Wednesday it is close to making L.A. its candidate to try to bring the games back to U.S. soil for the first time in a generation."

This comes after Boston dropped its bid for the 2024 Olympics citing the financial strain it would put on the city. Apparently, Los Angeles has no problem about that and are ready to make a run at returning the Olympics to the West Coast for the first time since the 80s.

Los Angeles hosted the Olympics back in 1984, which is they host the games in 2024 would mark the 40th anniversary since the event was last held in Los Angeles. It was also mark the first time since the 1996 games that the Summer Olympics were held in North America. The Winter Olympics have twice visited the continent since the ’84 Games, once in Salt Lake City and again when Vancouver hosted in 2010.

There are other sites that will make a bid and Los Angeles is no guarantee to land the Olympics.

It’s not going to be easy for the city to win the bid, especially when the state is currently all out of water and on fire most of the time. Then again, if Sochi could land the Winter Olympics last year, there’s nothing wrong with Los Angeles winning the bid for an event that isn’t going to happen for another decade.

There is also incredible support behind the idea, as a reported 81 percent approval was given to the idea of L.A. making bid for the Olympics and that’s something that is going to go a long way in giving one of the world’s greatest cities the world’s greatest event.
