When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, it forced things beyond just the social scope to change. The sports teams in NOLA needed to find a home, and the Hornets packed up and went to Oklahoma City to play basketball.

Little did we know at the time, this was a precursor to basketball actually coming to OKC on a permanent basis a few years later. While it’s not a direct inspiration for the uniforms, the jerseys that the Hornets wore in Oklahoma City are no doubt decedents of the uniforms that the Thunder eventually sported when they came to town from Seattle.

You can definitely see the resemblance between the two uniforms, even if they’re not mirror images of one another. This also makes an interesting period in the Hornets history, as they’ve become the journeyman franchise of the NBA moving from Charlotte to New Orleans and temporarily Oklahoma City. These are a reminder that the team always left a mark everywhere it went.
. Home. 2005-2007. OKC/New Orleans Hornets. 28. player. 170
