After falling one game short a year ago, the Kansas City Royals are again in contention for a World Series title.

If the Kansas City Royals‘ goal this season was to prove their 2014 run to the World Series was no fluke, 2015 has been nothing but an overwhelming success.

Many viewed Kansas City’s playoff berth and subsequent American League pennant as a product of luck rather than talent. After losing James Shields, Nori Aoki and Billy Butler in the offseason, few expected the Royals to be able to contend with the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians in the AL Central.

Not only are the Royals going to the playoffs again, they are a better team than last season. Kansas City enters Saturday’s action with a record of 70-46, the best record in the AL and second best in the Majors behind the St. Louis Cardinals.

Kansas City has looked like the best team in the American League for a vast majority of the season, even before adding Johnny Cueto and Ben Zobrist at the trade deadline. The Toronto Blue Jays may have something to say about that now, but it would be surprising if the Royals fell anywhere short of the ALCS.

The Royals have to be considered one of the favorites to reach the World Series, and have the ability to win their first title since 1985.
