1. Dan Marino

The former Miami Dolphins signal caller is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League. By the end of his career he had set countless records, including most touchdown passes in a season and most yards passing in a season. In fact, Marino was the first ever player to throw for over 5,000 yards and over 40 touchdowns in a season.

Aside from records Marino has just about every other honor an NFL player could aspire to. Marino was a nine-time All-Star and a six-time All-Pro. Marino won the NFL MVP in 1984, just one season after winning the Rookie of the Year award.

Marino would go on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005 and his number 13 jersey was retired by the Dolphins. His career included 61,361 yards passing and 420 touchdowns.

Despite how prolific Marino was on the field, he never won a Super Bowl. His closest call with the Vince Lombardi Trophy came during the 1984 season, his second in the league and the season he set the touchdowns record. Marino led the Dolphins to a 14-2 regular season record, an AFC Championship and a Super Bowl XIX appearance.

The Dolphins lost 38–16 to the San Francisco 49ers, and it was the last time Marino ever made it to the Super Bowl.
