Eli Manning wants to get paid and he wants to get paid pretty handsomely

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is coming into the final year of his contract. The two-time Super Bowl MVP is looking for one last deal to presumably end his career, and apparently, he wants a big honking contract. Philip Rivers has his new deal. Tony Romo got paid. So did Russell Wilson.

Now, it’s Eli’s time. And not only does he want that new deal, but he wants it to be pretty lucrative as well.

Manning had his best season in a while last year. He had his highest completion percentage since 2010 at 63.1%. He surpassed 30 touchdowns for the first time since 2010 and cut his interceptions in half from 27 to 14. He also threw for 4,410 yards.

Aaron Rodgers, on the other hand, is three years younger, threw for 4,300 yards 38 touchdowns and only five picks and almost went to the Super Bowl last season. Rodgers had a higher completion percentage, as did 17 other quarterbacks. The Packers signal caller had the second-highest QB rating in the game. Manning had the 15th.

The Giants also haven’t been in the playoffs since the 2011 season. Green Bay has been in the playoffs every year since 2009.

Eli can basically ask for all he wants in a contract negotiation. Philip Rivers just got four years at $83.25 million with $65 million of it guaranteed. Rivers and Eli were traded for another, so they will always be linked. Would a contract like what Rivers got make sense for Eli? Yes, considering their similarities and Eli can add to it that he has two rings.

Eli’s extension will get done before the season starts, I bet. However, I can’t see him being the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
