New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the National Football League, fronted by commissioner Roger Goodell, met on Tuesday with the hope of settling what has become a federal case over deflated footballs. To the shock of absolutely nobody, the talks are at a stalemate, according to ESPN.com.

The case is due back in court on Wednesday, and both Brady and Goodell were expected to attend. However, Brady is now going to be participating with the Patriots in their joint-practice with the New Orleans Saints, while the NFL has made it unclear who its representatives are going to be.

Brady was suspended four games for his role in the DeflateGate drama, although Brady is vehemently denying that he was involved in deflating the balls to an illegal air pressure. Of course, everyone in New England is screaming that Goodell is a liar, while the rest of the country just wants to see this insanity come to a close.

Judge Richard M. Berman has told both parties to figure out a settlement, but it does not appear anything is coming in the recent future. Brady is dead set on clearing his name, while Goodell has his heels dug in. With the regular season starting on Sept. 10 with a nationally televised game between the Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, one would imagine everyone wants this to be over with quickly.

On Friday, Brady’s lawyers filed paperwork alleging that the NFL is trying to damage Brady’s reputation with this case. It seems like the NFL would have nothing to gain by doing that to one of their best players, but this is Goodell. It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen during his tenure with the league.
