The New England Patriots have been known to cheat, and Peyton Manning has been paranoid around them for years.

When the New England Patriots were busted for Spygate, it tainted their legacy but we lived and learned from it and al eventually moved on. But there were some who couldn’t let the notion of the Patriots doing anything to get a leg up go unnoticed, and there were some players who went extra lengths to make sure the Patriots weren’t watching them.

Peyton Manning — Tom Brady’s biggest rival — is one of those players.

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Thursday to tell a story about how Peyton Manning was always afraid Bill Belichick was bugging the visitors locker room when he was there.

"That’s the word from former Colts coach Tony Dungy, who said on the Dan Patrick Show that when the Colts were playing in New England, Manning would leave the visitors’ locker room and go into an adjacent hallway when he wanted to discuss specific plays the Colts were going to run because Manning feared the locker room was bugged."

Peyton Manning isn’t a dumb player, and the idea that Bill Belichick had him looking over his shoulder is something that the Patriots will probably take pride in forever. It just adds another level of depth to the legacy between Brady, Manning and the Patriots. We didn’t think the rivalry could get any weirder than it already was — but here we have Manning freaking out about Belichick bugging his conversations.

This is how insane the Patriots really are. Bill Belichick is such a terrifying figure that players not only believe that he’d bug them for their conversations but they actively go out of their way to make sure such a thing isn’t happening.

Bill Belichick has officially gone full Howard Hughes on the world, and he’s nowhere near being finished.
