Each MLB team’s expected call-ups for roster expansion
New York Yankees
Headlong into a pennant chase for the American League East, the New York Yankees were one of the first teams to jump on the expanded rosters, making seven call-ups as soon as the clock turned to midnight on Monday.
That group included players that were already among those on the 40-man roster. Relievers Andrew Bailey, Caleb Coltham, and Jamez Pazos. New York also activated infielder/outfielder Dustin Ackley, while recalling Rob Refsnyder and Jose Peraza. Other familiar faces like catcher Austin Romine and speedster Rico Noel.
Given the tightness of the American League East race, the Yankees aren’t likely to add many more down the stretch. The additions of veterans Bailey, Romine, and Ackley could be big boons for the Yanks as they try to overcome the Blue Jays.
Ackley in particular would be a steep upgrade at second, at least offensively, over Stephen Drew. If he doesn’t pan out, the protection of having both Peraza and Refsnyder available should at least allow the Yankees to get some semblance of average production at the position.
