The Minnesota Twins appeared to be out of playoff contention just a few weeks ago, but now they find themselves in the middle of a heated wild card race.

It appears 2015 is the year for playoff-starved organizations in the American League to make their long-awaited return to the postseason.

The Houston Astros are prepared to make their first playoff appearance since getting trounced in the 2005 World Series. The Toronto Blue Jays have not played in October in over two decades, something that will change this season, barring a colossal meltdown.

Could the Minnesota Twins be next?

After an incredible hot streak to end the month of August, anything is possible.

The Twins transformed from an average team with little hope to one that has left the MLB completely dumbfounded. Their best player at the moment is a 22-year old rookie that has been in the major leagues for a total of two months. The pitcher they gave a massive contract this offseason is having a horrendous year, and it doesn’t matter. They just find ways to win games, which is all that matters.

The Twins just might be the hottest team in baseball, and if they keep up this pace, there is a good chance they will be ending a nine-year postseason drought this October. They have one team standing in their way, however. The Texas Rangers hold a one-game lead in the fight for the final wild card spot in the American League, and have become one of the best teams in baseball since the All-Star break.

The final month of the regular season will see plenty of surprises, but one thing is certain: the American League Wild Card race is going to be a heated one.

Here are five reasons why the Twins will secure the final wild card spot and shock MLB.
