Despite some reports that have come to light stating otherwise, the New York Mets plan to have Matt Harvey for a playoff run

Before people even thought about a potential playoff run, coming into the 2015 MLB season when you brought up the subject of the New York Mets, your attention immediately turned to ace starting pitcher Matt Harvey. After bursting onto the scene a few seasons ago, Harvey was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery, and everyone this season wanted to see how he’d come back from that recovery process.

All things considered, it’s gone about as well as anyone could have hoped for. This season Harvey carries with him a 12-7 record and a 2.60 ERA in 166.1 innings pitched. However, going back to the Mets making the playoffs part, that’s where the issue is starting to come in. According to his agent Scott Boras, he should be on a strict 180-inning limit this season so as not to deter that recovery at all. If you do the math, it’s easy to see that this puts in jeopardy Harvey potentially leading the Mets on a World Series run.

Well, according to ESPN.com, despite what Boras is alluding to in the media, that will not be the case. One way or another, they plan to carry Harvey with them into the playoffs next month. They have a plan in place to get rid of some innings in the near future, which includes a jump to a six-man rotation.

Still, with the Mets holding a six-game lead in the NL East in front of the Washington Nationals, barring a collapse over the next month, they’re going to be there in the field. With a World Series in their sights, they’d love to have their ace, so they’re in quite the predicament here. Apparently, though, by any means necessary they plan on trotting him out there to try and secure themselves that trophy in October.

It’s a gamble, but it might be one that’s worth taking in the long run.
