The Kansas City Chiefs went onto the road and dominated the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, beating the home team, 27-20. Kansas City got off to a great start, with rookie first-round pick Marcus Peters nabbing the first throw of the season from Brian Hoyer.

Houston was not able to do much behind Hoyer, who threw the aforementioned interception and fumbled. Both turnovers happened in the red zone and resulted in touchdowns for the Chiefs.

Highlights

Three stars

1. Travis Kelce

Kelce caught two touchdowns in the first half and had 106 yards on the game with six catches, continuously finding open holes in Romeo Crennel’s defense. Kelce is one of the hardest players to guard in the game because of his elite speed and size at the tight end position. He showcased his immense ability despite briefly leaving the game for an undisclosed injury.

2. Alex Smith

Smith has been long talked about as a game manager, but he was anything but in the first half at Houston. Smith was able to throw for 193 yards and three touchdowns in the first half before Kansas City head coach Andy Reid went conservative in the second half. Smith was able to find Kelce, Jeremy Maclin and Jamaal Charles early and often.

3. J.J. Watt

The Texans lost the game, but Watt was incredible once again. Watt was matched up against Jah Reid at right tackle and took care of business, notching nine tackles, six for a loss, with two sacks. Watt is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and is off to a fast start in his title defense.

Odds

The game had a line of EVEN, so those who bet on the Chiefs are happy. Those who bet on the Texans are not.

Next week

The Chiefs will be home to take on the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, while Houston will travel to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
