The Kansas City Chiefs looked to have the Denver Broncos down and out, but then they became the Chiefs we have all come to know and love in a 31-24 defeat at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City led 24-17 with less than a minute remaining before allowing a game-tying Emmanuel Sanders touchdown.

Then, in what can only be described as stunningly fitting, Jamaal Charles fumbled while Kansas City should have been taking a knee, leading to a Bradley Roby scoop-and-score in the final minute. Charles’ tuirnover was the fifth of the game for the Chiefs, who could not have done more to lose the game.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Peyton Manning

After starting the game slowly, Manning took off withe help of improved pass blocking. Manning completed 26-of-45 for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Manning drove Denver down to tie the game with less than a minute remaining before the Broncos won the game on a fumble recovery.

2. Demaryius Thomas

Thomas remains one of the best receivers in the game. Thomas was matched up on Marcus Peters and Jamell Fleming and he took advantage, catching eight passes for 116 yards. Thomas completely dominated Fleming, who played horribly the entire evening. Thomas showed why he was paid $70 million this offseason.

3. Jamaal Charles

Charles was bottled up at times by the ferocious Denver defense, but the All-Pro was able to carry 20 times for 124 yards and a touchdown. Charles has been one of the best backs in the league for his speed and toughness, and both were on full display against the Broncos.

Odds

Kansas City was favored by three points and did not cover.
