New York Giants’ defense end Jason Pierre-Paul believes he is ready to play and isn’t concerned about the fact that he is without an index finger.

New York Giants’ defense end Jason Pierre-Paul wants everyone to know that there is no relation between having an index finger and one’s ability to sack the quarterback.

After losing his index finger and reportedly part of his thumb during a July 4th incident with fireworks, Pierre-Paul is ready to take the field for the Giants. The Giants, however, are not so certain that Pierre-Paul is ready to begin his life as an NFL defensive end without an index finger.

Recent timelines have suggested that Pierre-Paul could miss the first six weeks of the 2015 NFL regular season.

When Pierre-Paul does return to the field, many will be tuning in to see what type of impact he makes for the Giants’ defense. With an index finger, Paul was a two-time NFL Pro-Bowler and was coming off a 2014 season where he had 12.5 sacks. Without an index finger, the common theory has been that Pierre-Paul will struggle to generate momentum off the line.

After failing to record a sack against Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo in their Week 1 loss, the Giants are certainly hoping that Pierre-Paul is correct in his assessment that index fingers are not needed for sacks.
