Former Oakland Athletics prospect Mike Nolan was shot in the head and torso during a drive-by shooting on Friday morning.

The Oakland Athletics were shocked on Friday morning when they learned that a 2014 draft pick was shot in the head during an early morning drive-by in Yonkers, New York.

On Friday morning, Mike Nolan was leaving a Burger King in Yonkers when he was shot at during a drive-by, and was hit in the head and torso by the gunfire. He is currently in extremely critical condition according to Lohud News.

At this time, the police have no suspects in the incident, and are noting that five or six shots were fired at Nolan’s black Mercedes. Police also believe that Nolan was an innocent victim of a senseless crime, although they are still investigating the details at this time, including a report from NBC New York stating that there may have been an earlier dispute between the shooters and Nolan and his friends.

Mike Nolan, 23, was selected by the Athletics with the team’s 18th round selection (552 overall) out of the Oklahoma City University. As noted by Craig Calceterra of NBC Sports, Nolan is currently listed as a member of the short-season Arizona Athletics. However, Melissa Lockard of Scout.com notes that Nolan retired before ever playing a game for the organization in order to move closer to home.

There is no reason for this type of violence, in any setting and because of it, a young man’s life hangs in the balance. Our thoughts are with Mike Nolan and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery.
