Kevin Owens captured the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Ryback at WWE Night of Champions

Kevin Owens had been challenging WWE Intercontinental Champion Ryback for several weeks, be it with verbal barbs or with interference in matches. On the go-home RAW for WWE Night of Champions, Ryback finally revealed that he and Owens would have a match for his IC title at the pay-per-view so Owens could try and prove himself.

The title match between Owens and Ryback turned into a slugfest early on. Owens tried to get the upper hand in terms of power, but that turned out to be a fruitless effort against The Big Guy. Ryback then showed off his own power with a huge Gorilla Press Slam to the outside:

When Ryback went to the outside to capitalize on the slam to the outside, Owens was waiting to attack. He then began heavily targeting the left arm of Ryback, trying to take away the champ’s power. Shots to the arm with the ring-post, various submission holds, and several strikes were on the menu for Ryback as Owens attacked:

As Owens continued to wear down Ryback, the champ began to get some energy from the crowd’s chants of “feed me more.” He used that energy to level the fight by taking Owens down and hitting him with a few big power moves, starting with a monster clothesline:

Ryback seemed to have the edge after that and got Owens up for Shell Shocked when his shoulder gave out. The Big Guy wasn’t done, though, staying on top of Owens enough for Ryback to again have a shot at Shell Shocked. After getting the challenger up, Owens raked the eyes of Ryback and rolled up the champ for the three count to capture the Intercontinental Championship:
