Four and out: Surprises from the NFL in Week 2
By Dani Bostick
Not everyone is off to a good start.
Some teams have yet to win a game. Sure, the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions weren’t exactly expected to have amazing seasons. Likewise, the Indianapolis Colts can be inconsistent. Still, there are other teams with an 0-2 record that are freaking out their fan bases by not measuring up to expectations.
The Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to have an awesome season under offensive-mastermind Chip Kelly. Is it too late for them to have a great season? Nope. Are the off to a good start? Also nope.
Same goes for the Seattle Seahawks. They just lost to the Green Bay Packers, which is completely understandable. They also fell last week to the St. Louis Rams, a team that has a formidable front seven. On the other hand, that same front seven was picked apart by the Washington Redskins this week. The Seahawks face the Bears in Week 3. If they lose to them, it may be time to panic in earnest.
The Baltimore Ravens are 0-2 as well. Their Week 1 loss was a defensive battle with the Denver Broncos. Week 2 brought a loss against the Oakland Raiders. AFC North teams have struggled against Oakland on the West Coast, so this isn’t a total surprise. The Ravens, however, have experienced significant personnel changes since last season. Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs is out with a ruptured Achilles. Also gone are defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, wide receiver Torrey Smith, and tight end Owen Daniels. The two losses could be a fluke, or they could be a function of a weaker roster and coaching changes. Only time will tell.
*Since this week was chalk-full of surprises, here are two more biggies that couldn’t be left out.
