Although they’re off to a flawless start to the season, the New York Jets’ jersey sales aren’t exactly taking off

Through two weeks of the NFL season thus far here in 2015, we’ve seen some surprises. Undoubtedly, one of those surprises has been the start by none other than the New York Jets. Following their victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night, this Jets team is now 2-0 on the season, something that not a lot of people saw coming, especially when they lost their starting quarterback, Geno Smith, before the season began. Yet, with Ryan Fitzpatrick and a Todd Bowles-led defense leading the charge, here they are after two weeks, not eating a loss to this point.

With this success, you would think that maybe their jersey sales would be on the rise. Well, that’s not exactly the case.

In actuality, while the AFC East accounts for a good portion of the NFL jersey sales thus far, the Jets are not exactly contributing mightily to this cause. According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects sales both nationwide and online, the Jets are only accounting for a small portion of the sales within the division through two weeks.

Of course, there could be a lot of reasons for this. While the Jets are off to that hot start, they’re not exactly doing it with some big names leading the way. Fitzpatrick, while a known entity within the NFL over the past few years, is not exactly at the level of someone you’d call a “big jersey seller.” On offense, they have someone like Brandon Marshall, while on defense there’s the polarizing presence that is Darrelle Revis. Really, when you think about it, those are the only two players on the team that have the star power to make jerseys come off the rack.

However, should this team continue to go on a roll as the season moves along here, this is a stat that might be changing sooner rather than later.
