New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin said that his wide receiver Victor Cruz’s health is improving and might play for the Giants sooner than later.

The New York Giants received their first win of the season on Thursday, and now they’ve received some good news in regards to the potential return of wide receiver Victor Cruz.

Victor Cruz is feeling better since suffering a calf injury in August. He was able to run in cut in Tuesday’s practice leading up to the New York Giants’ home game against NFC East rival Washington on Thursday Night Football. Cruz missed the first three weeks of the 2015 NFL Season nursing this calf injury.

The decision to see if Cruz will be active in the Giants’ Week 4 matchup in Buffalo versus the Bills will ultimately come down to Head Coach Tom Coughlin’s judgement. Cruz said the following about letting Coughlin making the decision on when Victor will return to the receiving corps for the Giants: “If you know Coughlin, it’s going to take a lot. So we’ll see. I’m going to keep continuing to put in the work myself, and we’ll see where this takes me. But with T.C., it gets tough.”

Cruz has not played in a regular season game for the New York Giants in 11 months, so you can understand his eagerness to get back on the gridiron. With the team releasing wideout Preston Parker prior to this week, the New York wide receiver corps would certainly welcome back their great slot receiver.

Where the Giants take the next step as a legitimate NFC East contender is in refining their aerial attack. Odell Beckham, Jr. is a perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver with his dynamism and he’s only in his second year as a professional. However, he can’t do it alone, so receivers like Rueben Randle and Victor Cruz will need to play like savvy veterans to give the Giants’ passing game so flight.

At 1-2 with Philadelphia’s offense needing drastic improvement, Dallas’ offense decimated by injury, and Washington needing better ball security on offense, New York could emerge as a serious contender in the down on its luck NFC East if Cruz and company can help quarterback Eli Manning in the passing game.
