The San Diego Chargers are looking to improve to 2-1 on the season, but they will need to take down the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon. Minnesota was a popular pick before the season to make a playoff run, but the bandwagon cleared out when it lost 20-3 in Week 1 to the San Francisco 49ers.

However, the Vikings were able to rebound at home against the Detroit Lions last week, winning 26-16. San Diego also beat Detroit, overtaking the Lions in Week 1 after trailing 21-3. The Chargers could not sustain their momentum last Sunday, though, falling at Paul Brown Stadium to the Cincinnati Bengals.

This matchup gives some advantages to the Vikings. Minnesota’s biggest weakness is the offensive line, which is currently without both center John Sullivan and right tackle Phil Loadholt (Loadholt is out for the season with a torn Achilles, Sullivan can return after eight weeks). Unfortunately for San Diego, it is without a good pass rush or run-stuffing nose tackle, which should allow Adrian Peterson to run wild. Minnesota does not have any terrific receivers, a matchup the Chargers should win with Brandon Flowers, Jason Verrett and Eric Weddle in the secondary.

Philip Rivers has been sublime through the first two games of the season, completing more than 80 percent of his throws. Rivers will be facing a fairly young but talented secondary in Xavier Rhodes, Harrison Smith and rookie first-round pick Trae Waynes. San Diego is still without tight end Antonio Gates, who was suspended for the first four games of the campaign after testing positive for performing enhancing drugs.
