Sean Payton optimistic Drew Brees plays for Saints Sunday

Sean Payton told reporters that he is optimistic Drew Brees will play week 4.
While Drew Brees is still recovering from a bruised rotator cuff in his right shoulder, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton is optimistic he will play this Sunday, according to ESPN reporter Mike Triplett.
Brees sustained the injury in a week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was visibly uncomfortable after he got up from the hit that ended up putting him out of the game. The Saints fell to 0-3 to start the season yesterday against a Carolina Panthers team that is reeling from injuries itself in a pivotal NFC South match up.
Payton noted that the most encouraging piece of information in this process is his daily progress. Last week Brees told Payton that he didn’t have the velocity he needs to play.
Brees is known for his resiliency. The start he missed against the Panthers was the first start that he has missed since 2006, when he joined the Saints organization.
His speedy return could be a good sign for Saints fans everywhere, who are looking for answers after trading away superstar tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks this off-season in exchange for pro bowl center Max Unger.
Back-up quarter back Luke McCown was 31 for 38 with 310 yards in the air and an interception yesterday in Brees’ absence.
Brees has thrown for 610 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this season while posting a 41.1 QBR, good for 28th in the league, per ESPN.
The Saints host the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys for Sunday Night Football in week 4.
