Fantasy football waiver wire: Week 4 Pickups top 10 to target
Derek Carr-QB-Oakland Raiders (19.8%)
If you lost Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, or Jay Cutler the last few weeks and are looking for a replacement, there are two names to check out. Week 4 also means the start of bye weeks, so if you have Tom Brady or Marcus Mariota you may also need to hit the fantasy football waiver wire in search of a fill-in. My top pickup who is widely available if you’re in search of a QB would be Derek Carr.
Carr threw for 314 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Raiders road win over Cleveland this week after throwing for 351 yards and three scores in a win over Baltimore in week 2. The only game he didn’t reach 300 yards and multiple scores was the opener when he was forced to leave early with a hand injury.
Carr is definitely clicking in coach Jack Del Rio’s system, and he is utilizing his wide receivers who have playmaking ability on the outside. Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, and Seth Roberts have all had strong showings this season, and it definitely looks like Carr is going to avoid any kind of sophomore slump.
This week, Carr is a great one-week fill-in as he and the Raiders take on the Bears in Chicago on Sunday. The Bears secondary has been dreadful this year, and they’re hurting on the offensive side of the ball too. It’s been a long time since the Raiders have looked this good, and despite all my natural misgivings I’m buying in to Carr and the rapidly improving Oakland offense. If there isn’t a Carson Palmer or other outlier available in your league, Carr is the pickup that I’d look for under center this week.
