Gary Barnidge-TE-Cleveland Browns (0.2%)

Tight end production has been spotty this season across the board which is why Barnidge’s big game deserves noticing even though he hadn’t been heavily used until this past week.  In Josh McCown’s full game as the Browns’ starting QB, he used Barnidge heavily and the eighth-year pro out of Louisville put up good numbers.

He was targeted a team-high ten times by McCown and finished with six catches for a team-high 105 yards and a touchdown.  Tight ends have been carving up the Raiders defense all season, so matchup may have played a role in his success.  There definitely was a connection there between Barnidge and McCown, though, and Barnidge should have some opportunities in front of him with Cleveland’s lack of wide receiver options.

This week, McCown and company head on the road to sunny southern California as they take on the Chargers.  San Diego allowed a receiving touchdown to opposing tight ends in each of the first two games of the season and have struggled against tight ends in recent seasons.  Barnidge is worth a flier off the fantasy football waiver wire if you are in search of a fill-in for Gronk or if you just need to add some depth at the very thin position.
