Andrew Luck limited in Wednesday’s practice

The Indianapolis Colts are 1-2 and look like hot garbage through three games. Quarterback Andrew Luck, despite being perhaps the most gifted player in today’s game, has been a factor in that. Perhaps we are getting a little glimpse of why.

Luck being limited in practice is not a major deal in its own right, but it speaks to a larger issue. General manager Ryan Grigson drafted of wide receiver Phillip Dorsett in the first round and signed a litany of weapons in Frank Gore and Andre Johnson, only to completely neglect the offensive line outside of Todd Herremans.

Incredibly, Herremans has already been benched and the rest of the line, save left tackle Anthony Castonzo, has been a mess. Luck has been sacked only five times, but continually gets hit. Luck has taken a pounding, and the result is five touchdowns and seven interceptions through the first three games of the season.

The Colts have the luxury of playing the AFC South, where a 6-10 record probably wins the division. However, Indianapolis came in as an overwhelming favorite to come out of the AFC and perhaps win the Super Bowl. It will be very tough for the Colts to do that without home-field advantage or at least a BYE week through the Wild Card round. It will be intriguing to see how Luck and the rest of his mates play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium, provided Luck can play.
