The star cornerback’s preseason knee injury has ended his season.

Bad news out of Virginia Tech. The tremendously talented and productive junior cornerback Kendall Fuller has undergone knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus that has plagued him since the preseason. He will need the entire season to recover and will not return to the field.

A projected first-round draft pick, Fuller has been the backbone of the Hokies defense, leading the NCAA in passes defensed and tallying an impressive number of tackles.

Fuller’s injury and recovery should not lower his draft stock. His ubiquitous presence on the field, uncanny instincts, and physical attributes make him an attractive option for NFL teams looking for a dynamic playmaker in the secondary.

Virginia Tech is 2-2 so far this season, suffering a recent loss to East Carolina, a game that Fuller sat out. The team will struggle to replace the talented defensive back. Upcoming match ups against Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Miami, and Duke will be much more difficult without Kendall on the field, terrorizing wide receivers and making game-changing plays.

Head coach Frank Beamer said in a statement, “Kendall was very determined to compete as long as he could with this injury. While we are disappointed he is sidelined for the remainder of the season, we know Kendall will approach his rehab with a very positive attitude and will continue to contribute to our team with his knowledge and leadership.”

Fuller has the support of his Virginia Tech family, and his actual family. Brothers Vincent, Kyle, and Corey all played football at Virginia Tech and went on to play in the NFL.
