Brent Seabrook and the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to a eight-year contract extension on Saturday.

Brent Seabrook will be a Chicago Blackhawk for another eight years, the team announced on Saturday. Seabrook will be receiving a $55 million total deal, which works out to $6.875 million annually, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Seabrook has played all 10 seasons of his career with the Blackhawks and has played more than 69 games in nine of those 10 seasons. He’s an icon for consistency and health in a league that is constantly battered by injuries. Seabrook has tallied 14 game-winning goals from the defensive line, a feat considering the amount of skill the Blackhawks have in Patrick Kane and Patrick Toews up top.

While Seabrook isn’t a stat-sheet stuffer, it’s his prolific 2-way play style that has cemented his status as a top defenseman.

While Seabrook isn’t a stat-sheet stuffer, it’s his prolific two-way playing style that has cemented his status as a top defenseman. He can play the No. 1 defensive slot with style, as he has topped 30 points on the season 7 times in his career, as well as showing the hustle it takes to match up with other teams No. 1 forwards.

While the Blackhawks didn’t make it to the playoffs for the first three seasons of his career, since the 2008-09 season they have gone deep every single year. Seabrook has been on three championship-winning Blackhawk teams, including their most recent win against the Tampa Bay Lightning, two teams that lost in the quarterfinals and one that made it to the conference finals. Not a bad record for someone who’s been in the league 10 years.

With this contract extension it looks as though Seabrook will likely finish his career as a one team player — rightly so with the amount of postseason success the Blackhawks have enjoyed during his stay.
