John Cena retained the US title in MSG against Seth Rollins with a little help from Kane

Seth Rollins and John Cena have been going back-and-forth with one another ever since SummerSlam and their Champion vs. Champion match won by Rollins with the help of John Stewart, who was in attendance at the WWE MSG Show. After Cena recaptured the U.S. title at Night of Champions, the two met again inside Madison Square Garden, this time battling in a steel cage for the United States Championship.

Despite the history between these two men, the match started with a feeling-out process, complete with rest-holds and so on. Rollins picked up the action out of a rest hold, getting Cena on his back to stomp on and then pick up and run into the cage:

Cena took a little more of a beating from Rollins, but it wasn’t nearly enough for a pinfall victory. Wanting this done as quickly as possible, Seth then tried to walk out the cage door, but was caught by Cena. Cena got in some strikes, but Rollins put him back down with a big kick to the face and then tried to climb the cage. He was caught by Cena and brought back to Earth with a massive bulldog:

The two men both tried to climb the cage, but neither got anywhere of consequence. The advantage felt to Rollins when Cena started up the cage again and was brought down and then taken to the mat with a wicked Slingblade from Rollins:

The sadistic side of Rollins came out, with him scraping Cena’s face against the cage. Rollins and Cena then picked up the pace with Cena hitting an Electric Chair Slam and Rollins fighting back. Cena then tried to end it with a big leg drop, but Rollins caught him for a mean powerbomb:

Rollins remained in clear control and began stalking Cena rather than trying to escape again. However, that backfired when he tried to Irish Whip Cena into the ropes and Cena reversed it:

That then set up the U.S. Champ for his comeback and the Five-Knuckle Shuffle, but Rollins kicked him in the head before he could hit it. Rollins gained the advantage again and then began taunting Cena arrogantly some more, which Cena reversed into finally hitting the Five-Knuckle Shuffle. He put Rollins up for the AA, but Rollins started climbing the cage out of it. Cena walked away and Rollins tried to hit Cena off the top rope. However, he got caught in the STF instead and tried to crawl out of the cage in the submission. After breaking the hold, he hit Cena with a big blow, slamming the door on his head:

The action continued to be furious, with near-falls and both men trying to escape. However, Rollins gained a big advantage with his superplex-into-suplex combo:

Rollins then looked to finally get the win and got to the outside of the cage after climbing before Cena caught him by the hair and pulled him back in. The champ then fought back and hit Rollins with a big Tornado DDT:

The two continued jockeying for control, with Cena trying to crawl out the door and Rollins climbing out of the cage at the same time:

This resulted in a crazy AA attempt that Seth countered into two nasty superkicks:

Rollins then got held up again in the STF, but Rollins countered and hit Cena with a low blow:

With Cena down in pain after the blow to the groin, Rollins had a free path out of the cage. That is, he had a free path until The Demon Kane’s music hit and the masked monster came down to the ring, presenting a dilemma for Rollins. Seth ultimately decided to dive off the top at Cena, which missed and allowed Cena to hit an AA for the pinfall victory:

The action wasn’t over yet, though as Kane found his way into the cage and preyed on a beaten Rollins. The result was a Chokeslam and Tombstone before the show went off the air:
