Texans end first half with Hail Mary TD (VIDEO)

The Houston Texans have been middling throughout Thursday Night Football, but they found some lightning at the end of the first half against the Indianapolis Colts.

Trailing 13-3 with one second remaining in the half, Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer loaded up and launched a Hail Mary into the end zone. Incredibly, rookie wide receiver Jaelen Strong got position on three Colts defensive backs and came down with the ball, sending NRG Stadium into pandemonium.

This play is both terrific and awful all at once. On one hand, you have Strong and Hoyer hooking up on a textbook heave. Hoyer buys enough time to let the receivers get into the end zone and fight for position, before throwing the ball into the fracas.

Meanwhile, look at the video again. What in the world is Greg Toler doing? The referees should have called Toler for pass interference on his own secondary. Toler is not even looking at the ball. In fact, he is looking out of the back of the end zone and pushing his own guy. That has to be one of the worst plays of all-time by a corner.

Hoyer came in for starting quarterback Ryan Mallett early in the second quarter after Mallett was hit hard. Despite Mallett being ready to go back into the game, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has decided to stick with the veteran. Hoyer has completed 8-of-13 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.

While Hoyer has been playing, Mallett has been pouting. In fact, Mallett ran off the field and into the locker room before the final extra point was attempted.
