The Toronto Blue Jays acquired Troy Tulowitzki for two reasons, his bat and his glove. The latter proved big in Game 2 of the ALDS.

Troy Tulowitzki came into the American League Divisional Series nursing a crack in his scapula after a scary collision a few weeks back with center fielder Kevin Pillar. However, based on his play on Friday afternoon, you’d never know he was hurting in any way.

With the game knotted up at three apiece in the top of the fourth inning, Josh Hamilton sent what appeared to be a solid single up the middle. However, he wasn’t expecting a diving Tulowitzki to come out of nowhere to steal said hit away from him.

The Blue Jays would take their first lead of the series in the bottom half of the inning. Kevin Pillar would lead off the inning with a bloop double to right and then be moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ryan Goins. Ben Revere would cash him in a few pitches later to give Toronto a 4-3 lead.

Tulowitzki is 0-for-2 in the game, and hitless in the series thus far, but he’s loomed large early on Friday. In addition to his dazzling play of the middle, the shortstop was also responsible for one of the team’s runs, reaching on an error by Rangers’ third baseman Hanser Alberto and later scoring on an RBI single from Russell Martin in the bottom of the second inning.

After losing game one on Thursday, the Blue Jays are looking to even up the best of five series prior to sending the American League Divisional series Texas. The last thing Toronto wants to do is drop both of their home games before hitting the road and being faced with the task of winning three straight to move on to the ALCS.
