Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles suffered a grade A1 shoulder sprain against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has been diagnosed with a grade A1 shoulder sprain after Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, according to Eugene Frenette.

The Jaguars fell 38-31 to the Buccaneers on Sunday, leaving them with a 1-4 record on the season. Bortles played the whole game and finished with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception, along with 303 yards in the air.

"Currently Bortles timetable for return is unknown, though if the sprain has any effect on his throwing motion or mobility, it would be expected that he would sit out until it fully heals."

Currently Bortles timetable for return is unknown, though if the sprain has any effect on his throwing motion or mobility, it would be expected that he would sit out until it fully heals. His injury comes on the same week that newly acquired tight end Julius Thomas returned to action.

Bortles is having a much better season than his last. With a solid receiver core in Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson, Bortles has seen early success from the pocket. With a now healthy Thomas at tight end, his recent string of well played games could be extended.

Bortles currently has 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in just five games this season. Last season, Bortles had 11 touchdowns and 17 interceptions through 14 games. His quarterback rating is up as well. While Bortles sported a 69.5 rating in 2014, his 2015 rating is 87.2. The same can be said for his total quarterback rating (qbr), which sat at a dismal 25.2 last season, but now rests at 63.7.

Bortles continues to make great strides in his passing ability and Jaguars fans can only hope that this injury is a minor setback. The Jaguars will take on the Houston Texans next week at home.
