The Kansas City Chiefs are making sure they have options at the running back position after Jamaal Charles went down with an injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to bring in running back Pierre Thomas for a workout, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pro bowl running back Jamaal Charles was injured on Sunday in a 18-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. The injury is in his knee and is expected to be some sort of ACL tear. Charles could potentially miss the rest of the season because of it.

While the Chiefs currently have Knile Davis and Charcandrick West in line to replace Charles, that decision won’t be an easy one to make, according to Bleacher Reports’ Jason Cole.

Thomas has played his entire seven-year career with the New Orleans Saints and is currently a free agent. His best season came in 2009 where he scored nine touchdowns in 15 games, but since then has only topped five touchdowns twice.

Davis played well in Charles’ brief absence last season and collected six touchdowns in 15 games. Davis is more of a bruiser, though, while West may bring more of a chance for the explosive plays that Chiefs’ fans have come to see so often from Charles.

While Charles will be an exceptionally difficult player to replace, the Chiefs problem doesn’t solely lie in the absence of their biggest impact player. The Chiefs started the season 1-4 with Charles in the lineup and won’t figure to do much better with him out of it. Head coach Andy Reid will now need to figure out a way to incorporate the passing game more than ever with their star player injured.
