Mario Hezonja may not win NBA Rookie of the Year, but he’s going to be a ton of fun

One of the NBA’s best-kept secrets coming into the 2015-16 season is the fact that the Orlando Magic might be one of the most fun teams in the league. Who knows what record they’ll finish with, but another year of Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton, and Aaron Gordon growing together is bound to be fun. Rookie Mario Hezonja might just take them over the top in terms of entertainment, though.

The 20-year-old Croatian lottery pick Hezonja has already developed a bit of a cult following among die-hard NBA fans because of his brashness and creativity on the court. If you weren’t already on the Hezonja bandwagon, here’s the alley-oop he threw Aaron Gordon during preseason action on Tuesday night:

Hezonja just threw his teammate a dunk contest style alley-oop in the middle of the game. Even better, he threw the bouncing oop through the defense. That’s just incredible on basically every level.

There are undoubtedly going to be growing pains for Hezonja coming to the NBA and those mistakes are sometimes going to be the result of the things that also make him potentially great. If he’s going to do things like throw alley-oops off the bounce during games, though, I think Magic fans and basketball fans will live with mistakes here and there.
