For the first time since the infamous Year of Bartman, the Chicago Cubs are off to the NLCS after eliminating the St. Louis Cardinals.

It has been long time since the Chicago Cubs were this good, and their amazing season hasn’t yet reached its conclusion. After falling in the first game of their NLDS series against heated rivals St. Louis, the Cubs have won three straight to bounce the Cardinals from the postseason and advance to the NLCS for the first time since 2003.

It took efforts from just about everyone on the roster, but the Cubs no doubt looked like the better team in the Divisional Series and have gotten over perhaps the biggest hump that lay before them this October.

Here’s a look at the updated MLB Playoff Bracket now that the Cubs have eliminated the Cardinals in the NLDS:

No the Cubs await the winner of the Dodgers-Mets series, which is headed to a Game 4 in which New York is leading 2-1. The Mets are the preferable opponent for the Cubs, as they match up better against the New York pitching rotation and have a lineup that plays better against what the Mets are offering.

We don’t know who the Cubs will be playing in the NLCS — all we know is that the first ticket has been punched. The Cubs have history working against them in the postseason, but right now all that stands between them and their first World Series since 1945.
