College Football Picks Against The Spread October 15-16

facebooktwitterreddit

There are seven games on tap between this Thursday and Friday, up from the four of weeks past. With Major League Baseball’s regular season coming to an end, our college football week starts even earlier with the Thursday games starting. I sent out my Tuesday pick via Twitter. Here it is so you know that I’m not cheating!

Thanks to South Alabama’s monumental fourth quarter meltdown in which they allowed a staggering 29 points, I am already starting off at -3 and 0-1 for the week. I need a good week since last week wasn’t all that great. It wasn’t as bad as I expected considering how poorly I did in pick em, but it still leaves something to be desired.

In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds! I take the average of the odds from all of the Vegas casinos. I then round to the nearest half. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football (soccer).

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. There simply is not enough information to get an accurate spread.

All of the picks for the Saturday games will be up at least two hours before the noon kickoffs for those of you parlayers out there!

Here are my college football picks against the spread October 15-16:

Auburn(-2.5) at Kentucky(5): No, no, NO, just NO!! Auburn doesn’t even have a freaking quarterback for Newton’s sake! And they are really going to win? ON THE ROAD?? Not a chance. Auburn might keep it close if Jeremy Johnson starts, but there is no way they win this game. Kentucky by at least a touchdown. Auburn still can’t stop the run. Just because San Jose State didn’t really run on them doesn’t mean that their run defense is magically better. This is the most bewildering line I have seen in quite a while!

Western Kentucky(-32.5) at North Texas(4): The Hilltopper offense has finally hit its stride. North Texas reached what might be an all time low for the program last weekend. They lost to FCS Portland State by the same score that Kansas lost to Baylor by. In case you weren’t watching, that is 66-7. They lost to an FCS team by 59 points!! Sure, Portland State beat the team that just beat Oregon, but still. This is embarrassing. This weekend wont be any better. Give me WKU.

(18)UCLA at (15)Stanford(-6.5)(2): UCLA has played much better away from home, so common sense says that they will play better on the Farm than they would in the Rose Bowl. Makes perfect sense. At any rate, I doubt that Stanford wins by a touchdown. Give me UCLA.

Cincinnati at BYU(-6.5)(3): Cincinnati has a full blown quarterback controversy brewing in the Queen City right now. If Gunnar Kiel is healthy enough, expect him to at least start the game in Provo over freshman sensation Hayden Moore. It’s a tough road matchup, and Kiel’s experience would come in handy. The Bearcats will keep this close, but I think BYU’s defense is good enough for them to win by 7. But only 7. BYU covers, but barely.

(24)Houston at Tulane(-19.5)(4): This looks low. Tulane has had a decent defense, but no one has been able to stop Greg Ward. Not even Louisville. Tulane’s defense isn’t in that class, and Houston’s is no slouch either. The Cougars pull away and cover this.

(21)Boise State(-9.5) at Utah State(3): This is too many. The Aggies have a solid defense, and they have adapted to life without Chuckie Keeton once again. This stays a one score game. Give me Utah State at home.

UNLV(-6.5) at Fresno State(3): The Bulldogs are terrible on defense. Just terrible. That said, UNLV has been unable to get any consistency at QB with Blake Decker out. Hell, they haven’t even been able to do it with him in. That said, whoever starts at QB for the Rebels will likely have a career day. Give me UNLV.

Stay tuned for the rest of the picks against the spread, DraftKings picks for Thursday and Friday, and the FanDuel picks for the weekend!
