Upsets are common occurrences throughout the season, but are unexpected by definition. What five college football teams should be on upset alert in Week 7?

The 2015 college football season has been a wild ride already, and we’re not even to the official halfway point. In the last week alone, there have been major injuries to star players including Georgia’s Nick Chubb, the coaching carousel has already started with open jobs at North Texas, USC and South Carolina, undefeated Florida quarterback Will Grier was suspended for a calendar year and USC, Oklahoma and Georgia were all upset.

Of course, it’s the upsets that are the focus of this exercise. Every week, we explore the polls and point spreads to try and identify which five ranked and favored teams are most likely to fall. Though we failed to identify the Trojans, Sooners or Bulldogs as potential casualties a week ago, every team is at risk every time they step onto the field.

There are legitimate reasons for almost every ranked and favored team to be worried this week:

  • No. 15 Stanford plays No. 18 UCLA on a Thursday night
  • No. 1 Ohio State has started slow in nearly every game this season, and hosts an improving Penn State squad that is on a five-game winning streak
  • No. 2 Baylor will face its toughest defensive test of the season in West Virginia
  • No. 4 Utah plays an Arizona State squad that was considered talented enough to be a Playoff contender in the preseason, and has won two games in a row
  • No. 5 Clemson faces the nation’s best defense (statistically speaking) in Boston College
  • No. 3 TCU, No. 10 Alabama, No. 19 Oklahoma, No. 17 Iowa, and No. 24 Houston all play on the road

But there are five others that are even more at risk. Let’s take a look at the five college football teams on upset alert in Week 7.
