Sammy Watkins took part in possibly the funniest receiving drill ever as he is hoping to heal from a calf injury.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has sat out for the past couple of weeks, due to a calf injury that he sustained on Sept. 27 in a win over the Miami Dolphins. He is expecting to return for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he is still being limited at practice. Watkins took part in an unusual practice drill, which may be viewed as a viable safety precaution.

This video is sure to bring plenty of laughs, as Watkins just sat there helplessly and was unable to catch any passes. Ironically, Watkins may have to reach that low for passes if the Bills are forced to switch starting quarterbacks.

Even if Watkins does play against the Bengals, his return will be anything but smooth since quarterback Tyrod Taylor is expected to sit out with a sprained MCL. EJ Manuel is on track to be the Bills’ starting quarterback if Taylor is forced to miss any time. It was initially thought that Taylor may miss multiple weeks, but he and head coach Rex Ryan insist that he will not be ruled out just yet.

Watkins has already acknowledged the risk that comes with him playing again in Week 6, as he may aggravate his injury and miss more time as a result.

“Injuries happen every day. I can’t really go out there hoping that it doesn’t pop. If it does, there’s more life to live. You’ve got next year and hopefully the next year,” Watkins said, according to ESPN.

The second-year receiver is still looking to live up to his billing as the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft, but he has fallen into an unfavorable situation that does not favor wide receivers due to marginal quarterback play. Although Watkins’ stats still don’t figure to receive an uptick any time soon, Taylor has proven to be a viable starting quarterback that can pick up rushing yards while not completing over 70 percent of his passes.
