BEVO XIV was discovered to have Bovine leukemia and recently succumbed to the virus.

It’s a sad day for every Texas Longhorn fans as earlier in the week we learned that BEVO XIV (the official mascot for the University of Texas) received a Bovine Leukemia diagnosis. And now according to Burnt Orange Nation, it’s been confirmed that BEVO XIV passed away in the presence of his caretakers at their own private ranch.

BEVO XIV became the official mascot for University of Texas back in 2004 during a University of North Texas matchup. As BEVO XIII was still alive at the time, it was the only time in history that two BEVOs stood on the same field.

BEVO XIV has had his fair share of accomplishments which includes being present at George W. Bush’s inauguration and having the distinction of presiding over five straight bowl wins (2005-2010.) And just last year, the Long Horn Network aired a five-hour Christmas special that included BEVO XIV himself roaming around his ranch for the entire duration of the show. Mixed into the scenes of BEVO XIV chewing grass and clipping along was a festive set holiday playlist in the background.

In honor of BEVO XIV’s 11-year tenure as mascot, the University of Texas did the honors of producing a short video with 14 facts you probably didn’t know about BEVO XIV. For example, did you know that BEVO XIV has a horn-span of longer than six feet or that BEVO XIV was friends with Matthew McConaughjey? Check out that video below.
