The MLB offseason is almost officially here, and the Tampa Bay Rays might want to start thinking about trading Evan Longoria.

We still have four teams alive in the MLB Postseason, but for most of the league now is the time to start looking ahead to offseason moves. one of those teams are the Tampa Bay Rays, and it might be time for them to sell on another massive pillar of the franchise as they did with David Price.

Evan Longoria is one of the best third baseman in baseball but you forget he exists thanks to the fact he plays in the wasteland of Tampa for a team that is only relevant every so often. If Longoria played for a contending team then not only would he be in a brighter spotlight but his talents might not be going to waste.

Nick Cafardo from the Boston Globe opines that if the Rays were looking to shop their third baseman this winter — which they probably should — then the Angles are an ideal landing spot.

"While he’s the face of the franchise, their status makes that meaningless. Over the last couple of years, baseball people have wondered whether the Rays would ever entertain dealing Longoria for a few pieces. With third basemen in demand, there would be a lot of play. Longoria would be a perfect Angel, for instance."

This isn’t a report that the Rays are shopping Longoria or that the Angels are looking to get him — but it’s a storyline that might manifest itself this winter. We see big deals made at the Winter Meetings all the time, and the Rays selling high on Longoria to a team like L.A. who are in a desperate position is the type of deal we might end up seeing.

It’s not a guarantee we’ll see that but it’s also not a notion to sleep on.
