Pat Narduzzi, during his conference call on Monday, may have went out of his way to take a shot at Penn State

So far in his first season as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers, Pat Narduzzi has this program rolling in the right direction. This past Sunday they made an appearance in the AP Top 25 rankings and they look now to be the front-runner in the Coastal Division of the ACC. He also seems to be getting a good grasp on Pitt’s longstanding rivalry with the other big program in the state, the Penn State Nittany Lions.

During his conference call on Monday, Narduzzi was on the subject of ruining a good quarterback with terrible play-calling. Well, this is where he may have taken the dig at Penn State.

He didn’t come right out and shout the name of the Nittany Lions, but when you do the match and read between the lines, you can pretty safely assume that this was aimed in the direction of Happy Valley.

Junior quarterback Christian Hackenberg thrived during his freshman season under Bill O’Brien, but in the two years under James Franklin and the new staff at Penn State, he has been made out to look less than stellar. He’s nowhere near the level that he was as a freshman, which of course raises some red flags right off the bat.

Well, it seems as if Narduzzi isn’t at all shy about waving those red flags right in their face. These two programs might not play one another as much as they used to, but the in-state rivalry isn’t exactly dead.
