As the NFL continues to expand into the European market, one team could play consecutive weeks in London next season.

As the NFL aims to expand their brand across the globe, they continue to line more games for their international series, which is scheduled well out until 2027. The international series is nothing new as games have been played in London while the NFL tries to increase their brand in the European market and eventually maybe even put a team permanently in England.

While that still has a long way to go as they build up the brand in new markets, the league is taking measures to increase their exposure with games being played in London each year. According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the league has already begun working on plans to take the next steps to putting a team permanently overseas.

One of those plans as they continue brand globalization, is to potentially have a team play two games in London next season, both of which would happen in consecutive weeks.

The thought of an NFL team overseas has been discussed at length before and plenty of obstacles have to be overcome for that to become a finality instead of a possibility. However, the idea of a team playing two consecutive weeks overseas is something new and certainly raises some interesting questions.

Would those both be home games for a team? Owners certainly don’t want to lose the dollars they get from having a home game and by already having one home game in London, they’re losing out on the gate that they would have normally received. It’s certainly possible, that they would be rewarded for giving up two games, whether it’s Super Bowls and other such things. It could also certainly be possible that one game would be considered a home game and one game considered a road game.

There’s many routes that this new development could go for the league. One thing is for sure, they’re doing their market research and are testing new things out. By increasing their games overseas, they’ll get a better idea of just how they have to approach the European market in order to sustain financial success and increase revenues.

The NFL is all in on Europe and expanding the game. Now they’re taking even more steps to ensure their success.
