No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies vs. No. 24 Ole Miss Rebels

This happens to be the only Top 25 matchup in week eight in college football and both the Texas A&M Aggies and Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a week seven loss, preventing a possible College GameDay showdown had both teams won.

Ole Miss was red-hot to begin the year and was 4-0 through four weeks with a nice win over No. 2 Alabama on the road. The Rebels have since lost two of three games, including a 38-10 blowout to Florida in week five and 37-24 to Memphis on Saturday. Ole Miss’ College Football Playoff are likely crushed.

As for Texas A&M, the Aggies are coming off their first loss of the season to Alabama in College Station and a nice rebound win over Ole Miss could keep playoff aspirations alive. The Aggies began the season unranked before plowing their way through the schedule before facing the Crimson Tide and falling, 41-23.

Keys to Victory

Texas A&M Aggies

One thing Texas A&M really had a tough time doing against the Crimson Tide was stopping their run led by Derrick Henry who had 236 yards and two touchdowns. Fortunately for the Aggies, Ole Miss doesn’t have a running back quite to that caliber as Jaylen Walton only has 331 yards and three touchdowns all year.

However, the offense is going to need to improve completely. Kyle Allen needs to protect the ball much better as he threw three interceptions a week ago and Tra Carson needs to run for more than 46 yards on 13 carries. If Allen can stay loose in the pocked and the offensive line can open holes for Carson, the Aggies will win.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Chad Kelly to Laquon Treadwell connection is one of the best in the country, so that will need to continue here against an improved Texas A&M secondary. Kelly has passed for over 2,200 yards and 16 touchdowns this year, but much like Allen for A&M, he must protect the ball better as he’s thrown for seven interceptions.

As for the Ole Miss defense, it’s going to be up to the secondary to make some stops as it really struggled against Memphis’ Paxton Lynch last week who threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Ole Miss is playing another solid quarterback and a dynamic receiving corps, so that will need to be a priority.

Prediction

I just think Texas A&M’s offense is going to expose the Ole Miss defense for the third time in four games and the Rebels will be just another flash-in-the-pan SEC team that skyrockets into the top-five to start the year before plummeting before week 10. Kyle Allen and Christian Kirk will be the connection to watch in this game while Ole Miss keeps it close until the end.

Final Score: Texas A&M 35, Ole Miss 31
