Dez Bryant will not play for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7 despite growing optimism from the team about his healing.

Wide receiver Dez Bryant has had six weeks to heal from a broken foot since that he suffered during Dallas’ season-opener. After a variety of reports following the injury, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Dallas fans were hopeful that Bryant would be able to return to the field against the New York Giants in Week 7. However, the Cowboys will have to wait at least one more week since he has been ruled out, according to NFL.com.

This is not too surprising since Bryant was listed as doubtful throughout the entire week. He did not travel with the team on Friday, so all signs pointed to him sitting out another week.

Bryant suffered his foot injury in Week 1 and has not seen the field since. The Cowboys have also had other bad luck throughout the season, as quarterback Tony Romo is nursing a broken clavicle and is not likely to return until around Week 11. The team has sputtered since these injuries and lost three consecutive games since its 2-0 start.

The Cowboys will turn to Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback after Brandon Weeden struggled in Romo’s absence. Cassel will have tight end Jason Witten to throw to, but he will have to deal with Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley as his starting wide receivers. This will be one of the team’s most important games since the Giants are also in contention to win the NFC East, even after a humiliating Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
