After being throttled by Clemson on Saturday, Miami needs to tell Al Golden that his time is up as head coach of the Hurricanes

Alright, Miami, it’s time.

Throughout the course of the past few seasons, and especially this year thus far, we’ve seen and heard the cries from Miami Hurricanes fans to show head coach Al Golden the door. Folks have expressed their angst on Twitter and fans have even used their hard-earned money to fly banners over the stadiums to call for the head of the man that was once thought to be the savior of the program.

Still, despite the cries, the excuses were always there as to why Golden should not be shown the door immediately. Even the Miami boosters like the man so much that they were willing to let him play out the rest of the year on the headset.

Oh, it is most certainly time to re-think that. Actually, after what took place on Saturday afternoon in Miami, there is not anything to run through the brain anymore — Al Golden needs to be removed from this Miami job immediately.

Saturday afternoon the Hurricanes, in front of a small number of fans once again, welcomed in one of the best teams in the country in the No. 6 Clemson Tigers. While not many expected Miami to beat the ACC favorite, if they even put up a fight that would be a good sign. Some semblance of life here on Saturday might at least make some happy.

Instead, this was anything but a fight; it was an schoolyard beat down. By the time the half hit, Miami was down 42-0 to the Tigers and what fans that were in attendance inside Sunlife Stadium were making their way to the exits and presumably to the beach to try and enjoy the rest of their Saturday afternoons.

When it was all in the books and the beating was over, Clemson took this one by a final score of 58-0. For those wondering, yes, this is the worst loss in the history of the Miami program.

Look, for a time, it made perfect sense to let Golden finish out the year. He did come into Saturday with a 4-2 record, which all things considered isn’t terrible. Those two losses were to a good Cincinnati team and rival Florida State, who is still undefeated. But, now in his fifth year with the Hurricanes, embarrassments like what happened on Saturday simply can’t be tolerated by the administration at the University of Miami.

Then we can look at the issue of the players getting out of control. Much prior to their contest against Florida State a few weeks ago, the Miami players were involved in a tussle with Clemson during pregame. Mind you, this is a team that’s being criticized week after week for their poor play, whether in a win or loss, acting as if they’re members of the 1980s Hurricanes teams. Plus, to further the discipline argument, Miami collected five personal fouls in the first 30 minutes of this one against Clemson.

After today’s god-awful loss, Golden is now 32-25 in the five seasons as coach of Miami. For a program that wants to be “back,” you’re not even close, Miami.

You want “The U” back? Then Sunday morning you need to give Golden a handshake, show him the door and start rebuilding this mess you have on your hands.
