What would happen if the 49ers traded Colin Kapernick to the Eagles?

Sports exists in a world largely dominated by speculation. When you think about it, only about one percent of what we talk about is actual results while the other 99 percent of the conversation is spent talking about what will happen as a result of what actually did happen.

It’s what makes sports fun, and it’s also the reason we have wild discussions about trades that probably won’t happen outside of a Madden game but should anyways.

As opined by NFL scribe Mike Freeman, a possible scenario we could deal with this offseason might involve the 49ers trading Colin Kaepernick to Chip Kelly and the Eagles.

That’s not in the least bit a report or a rumor that holds ay water — simply an opinion. But while it’s not a report or anything close to it, you can’t help but sit back and feel like this trade might work because it does make sense.

One the one hand you have the 49ers, who are all but spent on what they think Kaepernick can offer and can’t wait to get rid of him. At least, that’s the indication we get week in and week out by the way he’s used — or misused — and the general lack of support he gets.

Over in Philadelphia we have Chip Kelly, who is mixing and matching players with no remorse and is on a hunt to find the guy who closest resembles Marcus Mariota to fit his up-tempo scheme. That guy could be Kaepernick, as he’s a mobile quarterback who plays best when creating things with his feet.

Kelly hasn’t had a guy like that ever — as Mike Vick was old and used up by the time Kelly got around to using him and what little he had left in the tank was quickly zapped. Sam Bradford isn’t the answer and Tim Tebow wasn’t the right fit either.

Enter Kaepernick to the situation and all of a sudden Kelly has his best shot to make whatever the hell he’s running work. It’s not a sure thing, but it’s the closest he’ll get before he either succeeds or is run out of town. For the Niners, they have no use for Kaepernick and would be dealing with a team that traded a second round pick along with a starting NFL quarterback and another draft pick for Bradford and some spare change.

How would you not want to deal with that front office?

It’s not going to happen, even if you can never say never with Chip Kelly’s sanity, but it’s something that makes too much sense to not at least become a serious rumor we all talk about endlessly.
