Odds

With so many teams that appear to have an ample opportunity to make a run at the NBA Championship this season, the Lakers are not among them. Even if they surprise everyone, a title is completely out of reach. Fairly enough, the odds reflect that adequately as Bovada has the Lakers as just +10000 favorites to win the title.

That clearly indicates that the Lakers don’t have much of a shot at the title this season, but even those odds seem a bit high. Those are the same odds given to the Boston Celtics and while neither team looks like a title-contender, the Celtics are a far better team than the Lakers. The Los Angeles odds even being at +10000 is largely due to the mere profile of the organization.

The Lakers are also listed at +5000 to win the Western Conference, the ninth best odds in the conference. Considering that puts them sizably above the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns, that’s another number that has to be pushed up because of the Lakers’ popularity.

Making the Lakers’ Western Conference odds even crazier is the fact that they have worst odds to win their division, listed at +6600 in the Pacific. Granted, that’s the same division as the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, but that seems a little more absurd for the books to give L.A. better conference championship odds than divisional title odds.
